My morning was started off with the wonderful feeling of waking up and then realizing I had another full hour to sleep. After my newly found hour I woke up, showered, and got ready for the exciting day ahead of me. The first activity was an art project provided by Magic Milk. To begin with many adults were reluctant to get involved in the “childish” projects, but they soon realized the fun was meant for all, not just the kids. While everyones projects were being created all the families enjoyed lunch from Subway.
After our morning filled with fun and creativity we had our few hours of down time. A little into this time me and some fellow volunteers decided it was time to start making cookies for the dessert that night. Long story short, many of the cookies didn’t make it out of the kitchen and we had to make a quick run to the store for more.
To start off the night festivities everyone enjoyed pizza, oddly enough, from a seafood restaurant and the healing energy of a drum circle. When all were done eating we gathered around, grabbed a drum, and just let it all out. Through all the banging and noise it was seen by all the kids were enjoying themselves immensely with big smiles on their faces. Then to end the craziness of the night we all sang in a growing unison each time the line was said, “Give peace a chance.”
