It is difficult every time that we have to post that one of our Little Pink participants has passed away. As a staff and the volunteers who have served each person taken too soon, our hearts break. Being on a Little Pink retreat causes you to instantly have a heart that is open to falling in love with others.
Our service comes from the heart. And every time we post a picture of the beautiful survivor who is no longer here to tuck their kids into bed, or attend the wedding of a child, or grow old with their spouse, we know that even for a brief moment in time, that we were the lucky ones. The ones who got a chance to walk alongside them, meet their family and love them with all of our hearts.
Each time you see a photo that we post, I need you to look at the picture and then look at when they attended. We use the photos that we take on a retreat as their memorial photo on social media. So often, the person in the picture is bright, vibrant, incredibly happy. And we see them pass in 2 months, 6 months, a year and it astounds us how quickly this disease can take anyone. We are grateful to be able to honor them through our continued work and feel blessed that we have helped them create a network of support long after their loved one has passed.
Thanks to everyone who believes in our simple mission of providing smiles for breast cancer families. It is in these photos that we see the importance of our mission.
