When I first walked out of Dr. Lee Wilke’s office at Duke Cancer Center in 2009, I looked at my husband and said, “She isn’t just a surgeon, she is a teacher!” I was thrilled at the level of explanation, exploration of options, and complete faith that we were a team that was going to keep me alive. It is weird how as a patient you look forward to seeing some of your doctors- it is always the doctors that you admire, that are easy to talk to, or that you know would move mountains for you because they truly understand who you are as a human being, not just a patient. That was how I felt every visit with Dr. Wilke.
Fast forward 11 years – Dr. Wilke has always followed and encouraged the work that I do with Little Pink and I continue to be her biggest cheerleader- celebrating her successes in the breast cancer world. She is innovative and never stops dreaming of how to make every aspect of patient care better both as the Senior Medical Director of University of Wisconsin Health and in the creation of an amazing company, Elucent Medical that specializes in surgical navigation. And this year, Elucent Medical celebrates 2000 patients with a $10,000 donation to Little Pink!
One scared patient and one world-class surgeon who connected and maintain that caring for patients is about every aspect of their health. We are truly grateful for the entire Elucent Team and look forward to an amazing partnership.
