EDEN – The city of Eden Department of Economic Tourism and Development, along with a Morehead High School senior, hosted Paint Me Pink 5K Color Run on Saturday, Oct. 19, at Freedom Park to benefit a North Carolina breast cancer organization.
Morehead High School senior Lindsey Keith, 17, of Eden decided her junior year of high school that her senior project to graduate would be a color run to help breast cancer patients and survivors.
“Breast cancer has been near and dear to me for a long time,” Keith said. “Cancer has been in my family.”
Lindsey and her mother, Jan Keith, met with Cindy Adams, coordinator of tourism and special events for the city of Eden, back in April to begin the process of making a color run happen in Rockingham County.
“We started to plan out a route and stuff, and then we went from there,” Lindsey Keith said.
The goal at the meeting in April 2013 was to decide how much the T-shirts would cost to sell, how much registration would be, and how many runners Lindsey Keith expected to register and run.
“We had about 230 to 240 people register to run,” Adams said.
