What an amazing sight! 600 Jacksonville Elementary School students doing a flash mob to Sara Bareilles’ “BRAVE” at the Little Pink Beach Party today! (Video is posted on Facebook!)
The flash mob was in support of a teacher that is currently fighting the cancer battle and LPHOH mom, Michele Caudill and a teacher that passed away last year. To see the excitement of the kids and the way in which they were going to spur on all of the survivors who were present with every chorus of “I want to see you be brave!” was heartfelt and emotional for all who were lucky enough to be there in person. Like many other people in the audience, I stood there crying tears of happiness that such a young group of kids had practiced this dance routine and screamed out the words “be BRAVE” with each chorus.
Michele and her family came on the Outer Banks Retreat in Avon in 2013 and, in her words, “was thankful that Little Pink could do what no doctor, drug, or treatment could do- make the cancer go away for an entire week and just enjoy living!”. Michele is a teacher at Jacksonville Elementary and has had unbelievable support from her friends, family, faculty, students and parents. Her and her sister have both battled breast cancer and are shining examples of how to keep living and giving back to others. We were thrilled when Michele was interested in being one of our first stops on the tour!
The day included a ceremony to recognize 9 survivors present, Michele sharing why Little Pink was important to her, a visit from the Baltimore Orioles’s Oriole Bird, a flash mob dance to “Brave”, a dance contest, and lots of fun! The students and parents held bake sales and collected donations to raise over $4,700!
What a great day! Seeing the community that supports Michele and her family and knowing their love and support for Little Pink was amazing! I had never seen a flash mob in person before- it will take your breath away! Thanks Jacksonville Jets for becoming part of the Little Pink Family!
PS. Ramblings from the Road: so in a universe of traveling and eating at places all over , my son, Jake and I had lunch today and he ordered a burger with Peanut Butter and Jelly and Bacon. Sounds gross- but no lie- tasted totally amazing! The digestive travels with my 16 year old may just do me in!
