By Guest Blogger, Volunstars Kristine GironToday was full of smiles and accomplishment. The highlight of the day was paddle boarding. A first for many including myself. For our Little Pink families, this was a brand new experience and what we find over and over again on every retreat is how empowering trying something new can be! This morning was no exception.
Thanks to the continued support of Paddleboard New Smyrna, our families got a chance to paddle board and hydra bike all morning! I was hesitant at first, but I was glad I did it because you only live once. I started out confidently then crashed into a bush and fell into the water, it took me a bit to get up and figure out how to navigate, but I finally got the hang of it! It reminded me of that saying when life knocks you down, you get right back up. Even our youngest participant got on a paddle board at 4 years old and inspired all of us as she came in and said “You Only Live Once” after learning what the YOLO logo on her board meant. She inspired us all! Another highlight of the day was a manatee that clearly wanted our attention! After a great lunch provided by Chick-fil-A everyone got some time to wind down until dinner.During dinner, all the families enjoyed singing by Harmony Waves barbershop choir. Some quietly sang along and others just appreciated their singing, it was truly a great sight. As we’re getting more into the week, I’m really starting to see connections forming into something amazing!
