It was a clear and beautiful morning with my hometown Carolina blue skies following us all the way to Key West. Operating on the much-loved “island time,” the families meandered to Fort Zachary Taylor for the Little Pink Beach Day. The tent was up, beach chairs were primed and ready, and there were plenty of pink noodles and boogie boards to enjoy the refreshing water. Our first couple grabbed the snorkel gear and took off looking for ocean wildlife. When they returned, there was a healthy debate of just “how big” the fish were that they saw!
Squeals of children’s laughter filled the air throughout the day, with a group project of sculpted sand mermaids culminating the afternoon. Conversation was easy and without pretense. Bonding continued and lifelong memories were made as everyone casually moved about the beautiful grounds of Fort Zach. The afternoon blended easily into the evening as we all gathered together for traditional Key West fare, lovingly home cooked and served by the ladies from Trinity Wesleyan. Spirits lifted and voices grew louder as we joined together for group games and fun antics. The laughter was contagious and so were the smiles. The magic is happening again…..
