There is something truly amazing that happens when you are invited into someone’s home. You instantly become part of the family. In Buffalo, the Ross family has made the visit so much fun! We are here a week prior to their event (because of a scheduling conflict) and spent the day working on press and golf tournament preparations. Oh, how I wish I did not have a conflict so that I could be a part of their big day. But in true Buffalo style, we celebrated everything else!
Two wonderful young children, Emily and Evan, did a pink lemonade stand a couple of weeks ago in preparation fro our arrival. Today, they got a chance to tell me their story of why they did it, who participated, how you have to be patient and wave to cars to get the business, and why they chose Little Pink. They did their lemonade stand during the time that Monica Ross, LPHOH mom, was gone volunteering on a retreat and they couldn’t think of anyone else that they would rather give their donation to. The children also had their music teacher, Ms. Cheryl Jaenecke, attend an LPHOH retreat and feel very connected to the cause. It was so great to hear their stories and see the excitement that they had knowing that they were helping people that they loved. You have never seen anyone more excited to see a “big check”!
We had a good old fashioned back yard get together and there is no better way to get to know people than by sitting around the fire and talking. I love Buffalo!
Look for press and another big check out of Buffalo on Tuesday and on Saturday of next week! If you are in Buffalo, look for Evan and Emily’s lemonade stand next Friday- they want to fill their jar up again!
PS… Ramblings from the road: Sherry, Monica and I walked along the Niagara River today for our morning exercise (with all this driving, we are trying!), and it struck me how awesome my life is to be walking this river with two amazing women that I never would have met if God had not given me this path. With each step, I could feel how easily life changes when you open yourself up to his journey. I am so thankful for every person that I have came in contact with since that fateful day I was diagnosed that I know can simply call, “my friend”!
