The local chapter of Little Pink Houses of Hope is hosting a Wine & Art night for breast cancer survivors and their caretakers Thursday, marking the first of many programming events made possible by a N.C. GlaxoSmithKline Foundation Ribbons of Hope grant.
The national nonprofit — which started in Burlington — already gives weeklong beach retreats to breast cancer survivors and their families, but founder Jeanine Patten-Coble said the Burlington chapter wasn’t doing much local programming.
That is, until Little Pink Houses of Hope received a $25,000 Ribbons of Hope Grant from the N.C. GlaxoSmithKline Foundation this year.
“This is our first month of doing programs,” Patten-Coble said. “We’ve been planning all of the events.”
Many of the events, including Thursday’s Wine & Art night, will take place in the Little Pink Family Center in the Burlington Outlet Village. The 5,000-square-foot facility was donated to the organization by Jim Anthony, president of global real estate company Colliers International, according to a news release.
In addition to monthly breast cancer support group meetings, weekly fitness and wellness sessions, Patten-Coble said, the new programming will feature more art nights, professional photography sessions for cancer patients, and makeovers.
“We’re starting tons of local programming,” Patten-Coble said.
Thursday’s event, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at 2375 Corporation Parkway, is co-sponsored by The Painter’s Roost, which is providing the materials and instruction free to attending breast cancer survivors and their caretakers.
Dinner and a paint-your-own-canvas activity are included in the free event, but participants need to register online at www.littlepink.org.
