Imagine a place by the sea where the entire family takes parts in a free week-long vacation during the journey through breast cancer. Little Pink Houses of Hope provides just that — a retreat that is designed to help families relax, reconnect and rejuvenate as they love each other through it. From physical and emotional to financial and spiritual, the entire family is affected when cancer enters their lives.
In 2009, Founder, Jeanine Patten Coble was diagnosed with breast cancer, the day before her family’s beach vacation. Upon arriving at their annual destination, Jeanine put on her running shoes and took off to clear her head and contemplate how to prior to deliver the cancer news to her then 12-year-old son. It was there she encountered the metaphoric visual for the Little Pink Houses of Hope. Down along Old Lighthouse Road she encountered tons of completely abandoned houses with a playground in the middle. The lonliness of the scene struck a chord in her heart. As she ran back toward their own rented beach house, her mind was flooded with spontaneous creativity; “I could paint them paint … Little Pink Houses … I could create a cancer retreat center … families come to get away from the daily life of cancer … I am supposed to do something amazing with this.”
That experience led her to create the 501c3 charity affectionately and appropriately named “Little Pink Houses of Hope.” Their tagline captures the essence of getting through cancer and beyond: “Love Stronger; Laugh Harder; Love Deeper.” Tune in to hear from Founder and Executive Director, Jeanine, about what it takes to “retreat” from cancer through her incredible healing model of donated beach houses (all run by volunteers).
