Having the Little Pink trip to look forward to got me through the surgery and radiation.
I remember applying for the Little Pink retreat on Easter Sunday 2017, this was about 1 month after my diagnosis. My world had spun out of control and the dust was kind of settling! It felt good to try and have some control in our lives. This was at a time when I was meeting with social workers at chemo and was given piles of info regarding “stuff” for breast cancer patients and families! The little pink info stood out! I applied and began to move on and live everyday life as a cancer survivor! We got the news we were selected in August. The day before school started, my 11 year-old son and I were in the car listening to messages and just started screaming!! We were so excited! This was also a week before my bilateral mastectomy. Having the LPHOH trip to look forward to got me thru the surgery and radiation. I am sure my doctors could tell you they were tired of me telling them…”this has to be done by Nov 4th. Because we are going on vacation!” My medical team was and is awesome. I finished radiation Nov. 3rd and we were on our way Nov 4th! Our week in New Smyrna was wonderful! A chance to regroup and relax…oceanfront no less!! We were treated with incredible kindness and so much love! I will carry the memories of these women and their families with me forever. Our Volunstars were rock stars! I cannot wait to be on the other side and volunteer in the future. This was a once in a life experience and my family and I cannot thank LPHOH enough!!
