Heavenly Time on Hatteras Island

It has been a long hard year for us. We had just gone from a family of 4 to a family of 6. Then a few months later, came the diagnosis of Inflammatory BC. That led to a very rough year of treatment, surgery, radiation, and recovery. So this trip was a huge blessing to us all! We drove in from Oklahoma over 3 days. We arrived on Hatteras Island after (approx) 24 hours, and we were road weary. Our volunstars met us with smiles & sunshiny dispositions! Then we made our way to our home away for the week. It was beautiful. We got unloaded & settled & then off to the arrival dinner! It was a local dinner donation & it was delicious! We met our new friends and volunstars. Over the next week, we participated in activities and broke bread with other families & volunstars. We met people from the community. We connected with new friends. We reconnected with each other & relaxed together in a very laid back atmosphere. It was absolutely wonderful and so needed. It took our minds off the whole diagnosis, focus, pain -the “C” word that has consumed our lives for the last year. I didn’t realize how much we all needed a break until we were there. I will be grateful to Little Pink for this blessing for years and years. Thank you to every volunteer, donor, community member, who made this possible for our little family from a little town in Oklahoma.
